❝A Darcy and Elizabeth Short Story which fashions many of Jane Austen's own timeless words into another engaging path to happily ever after!❞

In this diverting Pride and Prejudice short story, what if Darcy had not wounded Elizabeth's pride by insulting her at the Meryton assembly and had danced with her instead? What if Elizabeth had refused to hear a negative word formed against Darcy by his former friend, George Wickham? What if Elizabeth had been so agreeably engaged with thoughts of the master of Pemberley that by the time his visit to Kent was drawing nearer to its end, she was indeed expecting his proposal?

Oh my, what a delightfully intriguing story that captured my imagination and I couldn't put it down until I finished!

Elizabeth meets Georgiana while visiting Pemberely and the two become friends. When Darcy comes into Hertfordshire, almost a year later, Elizabeth hopes to finally meet her friend's brother. However the two seem to always miss each other by a heartbeat, but once two meet the sparks fly!!

Their "courtship" is filled with all the misunderstandings our favorite couple are known for. I adored how Georgiana tries to plays matchmaker for two of the most important people in her life! Expecting His Proposal A Darcy and Elizabeth Short Story Darcy and Elizabeth Short Stories Book 2 edition by P O Dixon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The book is ok and the characters were loyal to the originals. But the story twists and the thought chains of the characters, sometimes and quite often, came too sudden and not smooth. For example, when Lizzy was thinking Wickham's description of Darcy was injustices, all of sudden, she totally believed it all to turn it all against Darcy. It seems to me while the author tried to put the many memorable scenes of Jane Austen's original into this variation, sometimes they became too odd to fit in or lacking some connections or sound story flow.
Ah, but don't misunderstand me that I think against P&P scenes in its variations, I do like some original scenes to be woven in the variations and that is one of the reasons we like to read P&P variations. Anyway, I would say Ms Dixon's "Bewitched, Body, Soul Miss Elizabeth Bennet" is much better and enjoyable than this.
As readers, we have to realize we are not recreating the wheel here, as this is still Austen’s P&P story. For the most part, we will have characters experiencing and doing what the P&P characters normally experienced in canon, with the exception of a twist here and there. Although we have certain expectations, the author has the last say as to how the characters behave and conduct themselves. That is why they are called variations… the story varies from canon periodically and we have new situations, dialogue, and sometimes OOC [out of character] behaviors, at the whim of the author.

We might experience a realignment of the timeline, a mix-up in dialogue delivered by someone else and at a different time and place, a juxtaposition of events and off the page happenings discussed only in dialogue, etc. There are dozens of scenarios and all at the will and discretion of an author. That is what JAFF is all about.

How creative can an author get and how deviously can they mix-up events, timelines and dialogue? Why not have someone else deliver those famous lines and at a different time? Or, perhaps, move that tirade to another location. Have a reversal of character and demeanor of a beloved character, throw out explosive dialogue between two people not expected, confuse and redirect the reader with false leads and rabbit trails. Delay the gratifying HEA until the last minute with angst that pulls at the heart and gives the reader nightmares at the possible loss between beloved characters. Or leave the reader confused and in a constant state of flux waiting for the next disaster to hit.

And then, when all hope is lost, deliver dialogue laced with words meant to bring tears to the eyes, an increase in the pulse, and a body blush from the toes to the top of the head, thus evoking and awakening maidenly senses. Yeah, that is what a JAFF author does. And that, my dear friends, is exactly what P.O. Dixon did with this novella… all of the above.

It ended at 91% on my reader with an excerpt from ‘As Good as a Lord’. There are dozens of reviews that will go into depth and there is no need for me to do the same. It is a quick, enjoyable read.
Some major diversions from canon are the premise of this variation. For one, Darcy decided to dance with Elizabeth at the Meryton assembly when first they met. Then they danced and talked enough for her to reject any aspersions to his character mentioned by Wickham. So when they renewed their acquaintance in Kent, she truly was expecting and desiring his proposal.

Then comes the enlightening conversation with Colonel Fitzwilliam, where Elizabeth finds out that Mr Darcy was one of the principles in separating her dearest Jane from Mr Bingley, thus causing her sister's present heartache. How could she go through with this marriage when he hates her family?

On the other hand, how can Darcy let Elizabeth go when he has come so close to gaining his heart's desire? Can he fix what he has broken and regain her trust, her respect, her love? What would he endure to return her to the happy lady who was expecting and desiring his proposal and marriage to him? A quick, sweet journey.
